INTERZONE Featured On BJÖRK's Charity Record
March 15, 2005Canadian band INTERZONE, featuring former SACRIFICE frontman Rob Urbinati, are among the artists featured on a collection of cover versions and mixes of BJÖRK's song "Army of Me", with all of the proceeds to go to UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund).
Prompted by the recent events in Southeast Asia, Icelandic singer Björk got the idea to release a charity record for UNICEF and setting the target to raise £250,000 within the first 10 days of release.
Over the years, Björk's work has been re-interpreted and covered by a hugely eclectic wide range of remixers and musicians. Björk discovered while doing some online research that "Army of Me" had been her most popular song to cover and mix.
Keen to give everyone an equal chance of being included on the album, Björk's web site Bjork.com posted an invitation on January 9, 2005 to musicians to submit their very own remixes and cover versions of the track "Army of Me".
The musicians were given a week or so to submit their contributions. Astoundingly, Björk received well over 600 submissions. Realizing the almighty task of the selection process ahead of her, she decided to ask the co-writer of "Army of Me", Graham Massey, to give her a hand.
Inspired no doubt by the growling techno-metal of the original, and the eclectic mixes that featured on the original singles, the submissions of mixes and cover versions were very varied. The final chosen tracks range from Canadian band INTERZONE's brutal extreme metal, to the soothing country sounds from THE MESSENGERS OF GOD, with an electro-clash number in the middle from Spain.
Everyone involved in this project from the artists through to the manufacturers have donated their services for free.

In related news, Germany's Voices from the Darkside is reporting that Urbinati is currently playing guitar in a BLACK SABBATH-style band called WAR AMP, which also features former JAWW and SOULSTORM members. "Our singer's name is Matt," Rob said. "Our style is like the first SABBATH album, Blues-based, but really heavy. The songs are very simple, but our writing style is pretty much to let the songs write themselves, just let it flow. We will be doing a rough demo in March. The vocals are heavy, but he can sing as well... and lots of leads!!!! I worship [Tony] Iommi, so this is fun... we may be doing a cover of MAIDEN's 'Prowler', not sure yet..."
